Whether your candle celebrates a much-loved pet or brings your favourite fragrance home, a few simple habits will help you enjoy every burn.
Before you light
Read your candle’s care label and follow its instructions.
Place your candle upright on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, draughts and anything that could catch fire. Keep it beyond the reach of children and pets.
Ensure the wick is 5mm in length before lighting. If trimming is needed, wait until the candle is completely cool. Remove wick trimmings and any other debris from the wax.
Make the first burn count
Allow the melted wax to spread evenly towards the edges of the vessel. This helps reduce tunnelling, where wax remains around the sides while the centre burns down.
Always stay within the maximum burn time on your candle’s label. If the wax has not reached the edges within that time, extinguish the candle and let it cool. Don’t extend the burn to force a full melt pool.
Enjoy safely, every time
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, including while sleeping.
- Keep the wax free of matches, wick trimmings and other debris.
- Keep burning candles apart so they do not heat one another.
- Never touch or move a candle while it is lit or the wax is liquid.
- If the flame becomes unusually high, flickers persistently or produces excessive smoke, extinguish the candle and let it cool before checking the wick and its position.
Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Never use water, and do not use the lid as a snuffer.
Let the vessel cool and the wax set fully before handling or relighting. Replace the lid only once the candle is completely cool.
Know when to stop
Stop using your candle at the remaining-wax level specified on its warning label. Never burn it until the vessel is empty.
Do not burn or refill a jar that is cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged.

Your Teddybae 10oz pet candle jar can be enjoyed again with a compatible Teddybae wax refill.
- Suitable: Personalised 10oz pet candle jars, ready-made 10oz dog and cat candle jars, and Teddybae 10oz special pet glass jars.
- Not suitable: 8oz scented glass jars and 4oz travel tins.
Refills contain wax for your existing compatible jar. A jar is not included.
Ready-made dog and cat candles come in Fresh Linen. When it is time to refill, you can choose from the available Teddybae refill fragrances.
How to prepare your jar and fit your refill
Keep your favourite pet close and enjoy a fresh Teddybae fragrance in your existing 10oz keepsake jar.
1. Cool and inspect your jar
Let your candle cool completely. Check the glass for cracks, chips or deep scratches. Do not refill a damaged jar.
2. Remove the remaining wax and old wick base
Use warm water to soften the remaining wax and loosen the old metal wick tab. Avoid boiling water and sudden temperature changes.
Allow the water to cool, then lift out any wax that has floated and solidified. Dispose of the wax in the bin, rather than down the drain.
Gently remove the loosened wick tab with tweezers. Do not force it or scrape the glass with a knife. If it remains firmly attached, contact Teddybae for help.
3. Hand wash and dry thoroughly
Wash the inside with warm water and dishwashing liquid, then rinse away all residue. Avoid abrasive cleaners and protect the pet image on the outside.
Dry thoroughly with a paper towel and allow any remaining moisture to evaporate. The base must be clean, dry and free of oily residue so the new wick adhesive can stick.
4. Fit your Teddybae refill
Remove the refill’s packaging and peel the protective backing from the adhesive wick sticker underneath.
Insert the refill into your compatible 10oz pet jar with the wick centred. Press firmly down to secure the adhesive wick base to the bottom of the jar. If the refill does not fit properly or the adhesive does not hold, do not light it; contact us.
5. Light and enjoy again
Ensure the wick is 5mm in length before lighting. Follow the first-burn guidance and all instructions on your candle’s warning label.
Enjoy approximately 70 hours of fragrance across multiple burns. Actual burn time varies with use and candle care.
Between burns
Store your candle upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once it is completely cool, replace the lid to help keep dust and debris out.
